The R53 dipstick is prone to break. Usually a tired dipstick shows signs of cracking along the shaft. That sounds uncomfortable but nowhere near as uncomfortable as ignoring the warning signs and realising that most of the dipstick has stayed behind in the engine.
Best advice is to replace before you have a crisis.

Is this dipstick a non-breaking version, or will it be expected to snap off in time... the same as the original?
This is an original MINI dipstick, with all that that implies. In other words, treat it as a consumable - when it starts to look cracked it's time for a new one!
